China imported 720 million US dollars of machine tools in February

Abstract According to China Customs data, in February 2013, China imported 4,839 metal processing machine tools, with a total import value of $720 million. The average unit price stood at $14,900, reflecting a continued downward trend in prices. This decline was partly influenced by the timing of the Spring Festival, which typically causes a drop in trade activity during that month. In the first two months of 2013, a total of 12,092 units were imported, valued at $1.78 billion, representing a year-on-year decrease of 8.09% in volume and 10.6% in value. In 2012, China imported 110,208 metal processing machine tools, marking a 3.7% decrease compared to the previous year. However, the total import value reached approximately $13.456 billion, an increase of 3.2%. The average unit price for imports rose to $124,000, up by 6.7% from the prior year. Since November 2012, there has been a consistent decline in the volume of metalworking machine tool imports, while the average import price has steadily increased. This trend continued into 2013, indicating a shift in market dynamics. The combination of lower volumes and higher unit prices suggests a possible move toward more advanced or high-value machinery, as well as potential supply chain adjustments. These trends may also reflect changes in domestic demand and global trade patterns affecting the manufacturing sector in China.
