Human activities cause greenhouse gas emissions, and greenhouse gas emissions cause global climate change. How to reduce greenhouse gas emissions caused by human activities is directly related to human survival. Straw is a precious resource, and its reasonable disposal will help reduce carbon emissions, while unreasonable disposal will bring severe water and air pollution.

After 7 years of efforts, the Xie Zubin research group of the Nanjing Institute of Soil Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences conducted a life cycle study on the energy consumption from the biochar production process, and the crop growth, biochar stability, and methane and nitrous oxide emissions after field return. . The results show that the effect of bio-charcoal returning to carbon reduction depends on the energy consumption of carbon, the recovery and utilization of cracked gas, the yield of biochar, the stability, and the carbon production process.

Slag-burning and other burning technologies that cannot recover cracked gas cannot achieve carbon reduction. In the case of carbonization rate of 40%, biochar stability greater than 100 years, and recovery and utilization of cracked gas, it is necessary to reduce carbon sequestration of biochar conversion, and the net energy consumption in the production of biochar requires less than 3.4 MJ kg- 1 straw.
