Researchers at the University of California, Irvine have developed the "OTEM: Optimized Thermal and Energy Management" method for the unified control of batteries and supercapacitors (large-capacity electric double layer capacitors) for electric vehicles. The speaker on the stage was Irving's Mohammad Abdullah Al Faruque. He explained that OTEM combines the unified control technology of battery and super capacitor with active battery cooling technology. Previously unified control technology and active cooling technology were developed separately, and OTEM achieved the integration of the two for the first time. OTEM has the effect of extending battery life.
In his speech, Al Faruque mainly introduced the model (information) needed to implement OTEM and the evaluation results of OTEM. From the evaluation results, OTEM has the following advantages: First, OTEM can extend the battery life by an average of 16.8%; secondly, it can reduce the energy consumption by an average of 12.1%. This value is different from the battery life extension because the cooling requires energy consumption.
