South Korea develops the world's first deformable lithium battery

A few days ago, South Korean scientists published a paper, saying that the development of the "world's first" deformable lithium battery has been very smooth and the performance of this product has been relatively stable. The research and development of the product laid the foundation for the arrival of deformable mobile phones in the future.

According to a report by the South Korea's Yonhap News Agency on Tuesday, scientists from the National Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology and nine other collaborators from foreign schools have developed this new battery technology. This new rechargeable battery is made of nano-materials that can be attached to any surface to produce a fluid-like polymer dielectric.

Conventional lithium batteries use liquefied electrolytes, and split electrolytes may melt at high temperatures, which presents problems in terms of safety performance. The new battery uses a deformable but relatively hard material (not a fluid), and its performance and safety and stability are much higher than traditional batteries.

Last week at CES, Samsung released a prototype with a deformable screen. It is believed that the research and development of the deformable battery will further stimulate the development of deformable mobile phones. Samsung Berkeley, senior vice president of Samsung, previously stated that the company's Youm flexible OLED screen has changed the model of consumer interaction with mobile phones, providing new opportunities for handset manufacturers and application developers.
