In May, the rubber and plastic market rose more or less

In May, the rubber and plastic market experienced a moderate upward trend, with some improvement in the supply-demand imbalance compared to the previous month. Analysts suggest that the market performed better than in April, primarily driven by rising production costs and tighter supply conditions. However, demand remained sluggish and did not show any significant improvement. Looking ahead, it’s expected that the market won’t see substantial growth in June. Investors are advised to stay cautious, as there could be a potential for a market correction or volatility in the near future. According to recent data, 11 out of the monitored products in the rubber and plastics sector saw price increases in May, representing 5% of the total. Among them, one product recorded a rise of over 5%. The top three gainers were butyl rubber 1751 (up 6.77%), LDPE (up 4.02%), and HDPE (up 2.93%). On the flip side, six products saw prices decline. The biggest losers were POM (down 3.91%), nitrile rubber N41 (down 3.03%), and butadiene rubber (down 2.35%). From a supply and demand perspective, the general plastics segment showed some improvement. Since April, an increase in petrochemical plant maintenance has reduced overall production capacity, leading to declining inventory levels. This trend continued into May, with shortages reported in certain products like polyethylene and polystyrene. Limited production combined with price support helped boost market sentiment. However, the supply-demand imbalance remains severe for synthetic and natural rubber. Natural rubber, in particular, is still facing a de-stocking phase. The introduction of new plastic products has further complicated the market situation. Meanwhile, the downstream tire industry remains weak, with many manufacturers reducing output and offering promotions to clear inventory. This ongoing pressure continues to weigh on the rubber and plastics market.
