Smart Device: Solar Energy Automatic Trash Bin

Industrial Technology Waste Sorting Robot Released

Cans, toothpaste, light bulbs, batteries... For many people who are committed to green living, accurately classifying all kinds of waste is a matter of “technical content”. However, an “automatic sorting trash can” independently designed by college students of the School of Mechanical Engineering of Shanghai University of Engineering and Technology can make the rubbish land “separately”. This morning, reporters at the Engineering Training Center of Shanghai University of Engineering and Technology in Songjiang looked at the smart trash.

Garbage classification is difficult to implement and triggers design inspiration

At the scene, the reporter saw that a student threw cans, glass medicine bottles, plastic bottles, and waste paper into this “automatic trash can” in turn. The built-in separation device of the trash can identify the garbage and sort the garbage into categories. Pass to different areas.

Zhao Zhenfeng, a project leader of the Automatic Trash Bin and a student of mechanical engineering and automation at the School of Mechanical Engineering at Shanghai University of Engineering and Technology, said, “This city has been promoting garbage classification for several years, but some people either don’t know how to distinguish rubbish or lack rubbish. The awareness of categorization simply throws it away. If there is a trash can that can be automatically classified, then the public will not have to worry about which trash to put into the trash.”

Long Gang, one of the designers, said that after investigations, members of the project team found that although there are automatic trash cans that are formed on the market, the structure is relatively complex and often applies to factories. Therefore, they will focus their attention on recreational areas such as communities and parks. They hope to design an automatic trash can that can be automatically detected, identified, and classified, so that people can easily solve the classification problem while throwing garbage.

Automatic trash classification with 90% recognition rate

It is not easy to turn drawings into physical objects. Zhao Zhenfeng said that only the structural design was tried several times, and the circuit board and controller were constantly being modified until they were in the best condition. The selection of the motor, the relationship between the static torque of the motor and the driven load, and the decay of the torque at the start of the motor... There are quite a few problems to be solved in the engineering design. In particular, the members of the project team have only recently joined the sophomore year, because of the freshman. Professional classes have limited contact and they often run into walls. "A lot of things can't be read without reading books. Experiments are needed." So, check out the materials, read the tutorials, and keep trying. Zhao Zhenfeng and his companions learned from doing their own experiments. If they don't understand them, they would go to the teacher and ask the teacher's help. Today, this "automatic trash can" recognition accuracy can reach 90%.

“There are several mats in the laboratory. When the experiment is done, we will lie down for a while and wake up to continue. If not, we will be perfect!” "The project is always full of spirit. When we are short and sleepy, we notice that it has been four or five in the morning." In order to speed up the progress, the members agreed to take a break to ensure that there is always someone in front of the workbench.

Intelligent trash can reuse energy

Interestingly, since designing and producing "automatic trash cans" together, the team members often joked with each other and said, "Before our trash can come into existence, please pay attention to the classification!" According to the material of different garbage, they introduce different types of garbage. The electrical constants are classified, and the trash can be powered by solar panels outdoors. College designers said that as a result, environmentally-friendly automatic trash bins can save energy, reduce emissions, and achieve the purpose of energy recycling.

In order to save the processing cost of the “automatic sorting trash”, college students continue to optimize their structure and reduce the production cost by 30%. Long Gang said, “Garbage classification focuses on energy conservation and environmental protection, so only the cost can be appreciated.” Zhang Chunyan, the project instructor, said that innovative projects for college students focus on feasibility rather than on paper. Although this "environmentally-friendly automatic classification trash" has emerged in the Shanghai Mechanical Design Innovation Competition, it seems to Zhang Chunyan that before it is promoted, it also needs to overcome the influence of environmental factors on the accuracy of automatic identification detection, and It is possible to fit people's daily habits. College student designers said that they will continue to "tack off" and further improve the "automatic trash can" function. (Reporter Zhu Mengxue)

Silk-screen printed glass is a special kind of Decoration Glass made by printing a layer of ceramic ink on the surface of glass through the screen mesh for tempering or heat-strengthening process after. As a result silk-screen printed glass is durable, scratch-proof, solar shading and with anti-glare effect.  Its acid and moisture resistant features maintain colors for decades, whereas various color and graphic choices are an option. The tempered silk-screen printed glass has Safety Glass properties. Applicable areas are architectural interior and exterior decoration, curtain wall installations, etc.
