Angular contact ball bearings are widely used in high-speed and precision applications. These bearings are designed to handle both radial and axial loads simultaneously, making them ideal for various mechanical systems where combined loading is present. The cage of an angular contact ball bearing can be made from different materials such as brass or synthetic resin, depending on the specific application and operating conditions. The choice of material affects the bearing's performance, durability, and suitability for different environments. One key feature of angular contact ball bearings is their contact angle. The larger the contact angle, the greater the axial load capacity. For high-precision and high-speed applications, a 15-degree contact angle is commonly used. However, under load, the contact angle may increase slightly, which should be considered during design and selection. Single-row angular contact ball bearings are capable of handling axial loads in only one direction. When radial loads are applied, they also induce additional axial forces. This means that the bearing can only constrain the shaft or housing in one direction. To overcome this limitation, two bearings can be paired in a back-to-back or face-to-face configuration. In this setup, the outer rings are arranged so that the wide sides face each other, and the narrow sides face each other. This arrangement prevents the development of unwanted axial forces and allows for bidirectional axial constraint within a defined clearance range. Angular contact ball bearings are commonly found in machinery such as motors, gearboxes, and machine tool spindles. Their ability to handle combined loads makes them a popular choice in industries requiring high performance and reliability.
