Ukraine to re-evaluate Russia-Ukraine gas contract

According to local media reports, Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov stated in Kiev on the 26th that Russia and Russia have agreed to reassess the Ukrainian natural gas export contract after the Russian and Ukrainian presidents and senior energy officials met on the weekend. For months, Russia has been asked to revise the natural gas contract that was signed in 2009 with former Ukrainian leaders, saying that Russia had demanded a high price, and that former Prime Minister Tymoshenko, who was representing Uzbekistan for negotiations at the time, was also suspected of overstepping the right to sign a natural gas contract. The Ukrainian Prosecutor’s Office had undergone trials and investigations. Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych stated in an interview that due to Russia-Ukraine gas contracts, Ukraine has to pay an additional US$5 billion-$6 billion in natural gas to Russia each year. The 10-year contract period will cost Ukraine a total of 60 billion U.S. dollars.
