Volvo is committed to developing high-speed chargers

Volvo is working on its world's first three-phase car charger. The charger can ensure that the electric vehicle has far faster than the existing charging speed. Instead of spending the entire night or charging the car for hours at a time, Volvo claims that its on-board unit allows the user to fully charge the battery within 1.5 hours. Volvo's high-speed chargers have significantly improved the existing on-board charging hardware capabilities.

A 400V three-phase power supply, 22-kilowatt charger, can provide 50 miles (or 80 kilometers) of driving power in half an hour. A full charge takes 1.5 hours.

Volvo's hardware also allows traditional 230V voltage overnight charging. Based on the available current, a 230V power supply will charge the battery for 8 to 10 hours.

“The user can fill the battery pack one or more times during the day,” explains Lennart Stegland, Volvo’s vice president of electric propulsion systems. “This means that the range of the day is significantly expanded, but it has the same low operating costs as conventional powertrain cars.” .
