China's breeding of molecular breeding cattle has been a breakthrough

The National Science and Technology Project, led by Professor Chen Hong, a doctoral tutor of Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University, has passed expert appraisals organized by the Ministry of Education. The expert committee unanimously held that this research has achieved a number of innovations and breakthroughs that have reached internationally advanced levels.

According to experts, there is still a big gap between China's beef cattle industry and the strength of the dairy industry compared with the developed countries in the world. For example, at present, the local cattle breed is the main body of China's beef cattle industry. Although it has many advantages, it has slow growth and low individual meat production, and it cannot adapt to the current rapid development of beef cattle industrial production and consumer market demand. The research team led by Professor Chen Hong made use of various molecular biology techniques and therapies. After nearly 10 years of unremitting exploration and efforts, he has finally made breakthroughs in the molecular genetic studies of the main cattle economic traits in China.

This achievement systematically studied the molecular genetic basis of economic traits in China's major cattle species and found a large number of molecular markers related to economic traits of yellow cattle and dairy cows, revealing the molecular genetic characteristics of yellow cattle, dairy cows, buffaloes, and yaks, and enriching the main Chinese The cattle's DNA database provides important data for the establishment of a molecular selection system for the economic traits of beef cattle and dairy cows, and provides a scientific basis for the rapid selection of beef cattle and dairy cows.
