Marble furniture maintenance

Marble is a naturally porous material, which makes it prone to staining. When cleaning, always use minimal water to avoid seepage into the surface. For regular maintenance, gently wipe the surface with a cloth dampened in a mild detergent solution. Follow up by wiping with a clean, soft cloth and drying thoroughly. If the marble furniture is heavily worn or has deep stains, you can use fine steel wool to gently remove the top layer, then polish it with an electric sander to restore its shine. Alternatively, a liquid scrub can be used for more thorough cleaning.

For stubborn stains, lemon juice or white vinegar can be effective. However, be sure to rinse them off within 1–2 minutes to prevent any damage to the marble. If needed, repeat the process, then rinse and dry completely. Minor scratches or abrasions can be treated with special marble cleaners and sealers that help protect and enhance the stone's appearance.

If the marble furniture is old, valuable, or painted, it’s best to consult a professional for proper care and restoration. Painted marble should be stripped using a paint stripper according to the manufacturer’s instructions. This may require multiple layers of stripping and careful sanding afterward. For stains caused by cosmetics, tea, or tobacco, a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and a small amount of ammonia can be applied for about two hours before rinsing and drying.

Oil-based stains can be addressed by wiping with rubbing alcohol, acetone, or mineral spirits. Always test on a small area first. If the furniture has been damaged by coffee spills or cigarette burns, it’s recommended to seek professional repair services to ensure the integrity and beauty of the marble are preserved.
