LEGO launches electric wind turbines made from plant plastics

HC Plastics News:

Earlier this year, Lego announced an environmentally friendly plastic tile, and now Lego has launched the first complete new material. This toy set is based on a fully motorized wind turbine that demonstrates the company's ambition for sustainability.

Lego's Vestas wind turbines have 826 components that, when assembled, form a one-meter-high wind tower with an electric turbine that draws power from a small battery box. This motor rotates the turbine blades and sits in front of the wooded hillside.

In these trees, you will find a spruce tree model made from Lego's plant plastics. This is the product of the LEGO Sustainable Materials Center, which is dedicated to developing more sustainable production methods for plastic tiles, in which case polyethylene plastic sheets made from sugar cane ethanol are used.

Although a plastic tree does not significantly reduce the huge problem of plastic waste in the world, it seems to be the first step Lego has taken to reduce pollution. The new facility was developed in collaboration with sustainable energy company Vestas, which says it has completely offset the energy used to make bricks through wind energy investments. Vestas plans to expand the use of sustainable materials from here.

The Vestas wind turbine also includes three statue workers, a service car and a yard with chairs. It will be available for sale for $200 from November 23.
