Professional elderly home market is the future trend

The professional elderly home market is quickly becoming a major trend in the future. When it comes to furniture for the elderly, most people immediately think of a rocking chair. But what else can be done beyond that? It's time we pay more attention to this growing need. Finding products specifically designed for the elderly at home is proving to be quite challenging. During a visit to Hualing and Meiju Logistics Park, I explored several well-known bathroom brands, asking if they had any products tailored for seniors. The sales staff were unfamiliar with such options. Some even mentioned that this niche market is too small to justify the effort. Others said there’s little demand, so they don’t see the need to focus on it. This isn't just limited to bathroom products. When I asked about elderly furniture, some sales representatives were confused. One said, “Do furniture pieces really have to be different for the elderly and the young?” Another added, “Older people don’t like dark colors.” However, many seniors still face challenges when choosing furniture. An elderly customer shared, “I can’t stand soft sofas at home. Once I sit down, I get stuck and it’s hard to get up again.” This highlights the real needs of older adults—comfort, safety, and ease of use. Despite these needs, the market for specialized elderly furniture remains limited. Many businesses are aware of children’s furniture but not of products designed for the elderly. Some even try to rebrand regular furniture as “suitable for seniors” by simply changing the color or material, using misleading marketing tactics like “best for seniors” or “only for seniors.” As the elderly population grows, the demand for home products tailored to their needs is increasing. From Mercure, Hualing, and Wanjia, I learned that the elderly home market is slowly gaining traction, and it's expected to become one of the key trends in the coming years. Since older adults spend a significant amount of time at home, practicality, safety, and comfort are essential. However, products that combine health, environmental friendliness, functionality, and safety are still rare. Industry experts suggest that elderly-friendly home products should minimize potential risks—such as rounded furniture edges to prevent injury, firm mattresses for better support, chairs with larger backrests and armrests for easier sitting and standing, and lower drawer heights to reduce bending. Additionally, modern seniors also appreciate a vibrant and colorful living environment. Therefore, elderly furniture should not only be functional but also aesthetically pleasing, blending artistry with practicality. In recent years, the home furnishings industry has seen continuous innovation, especially with the rise of smart furniture. Yet, elderly furniture has remained largely overlooked. Companies should consider developing brands focused on senior consumers, researching and designing furniture that truly meets their needs. Attention to detail and a deep understanding of the elderly lifestyle will be key to capturing this growing market.
