Joint research team of China, Japan and the United States confirmed the existence of Dirac electron

A joint research team consisting of the Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the National Institute for Research and Development of Materials and Materials, and the National Strong Magnetic Field Laboratory of the United States recently conducted experiments to clarify the iron-based superconductors that are currently most promising as high-temperature superconductors. The electronic state of the parent material CaFeAsF confirms the presence of Dirac electrons.

The iron-based superconductors discovered in 2008 have attracted attention as potential candidates for high-temperature superconductors due to their high conversion temperatures. In superconductivity studies, it is necessary to find new superconductors by displacing some elements of the parent material. In order to understand the causes of high-temperature superconductivity, it is important to elucidate the electronic state of the parent material. However, it is extremely difficult to produce a matrix material of an iron-based superconductor with a high superconducting transition temperature, and it is difficult to obtain a high-quality sample with few impurities and defects. Therefore, the experimental analysis of the electron state has not been able to make progress.

The research team completely confirmed the Fermi surface of the parent material CaFeAsF of the iron-based superconductor, which shows the largest electron state of energy. Using the high-quality CaFeAsF single crystals synthesized by the Chinese research team, the Japanese and American teams measured quantum oscillations in ultra-low temperature strong magnetic fields and successfully completed the Fermi surface observation. The measured values of Fermi surfaces are consistent with the theoretical predictions. Through detailed analysis of quantum oscillations, the team found that the Fermi surface is formed by a special type of electron known as Dirac electrons, which move at high speed in solids and are not easily affected by impurities.

The latest study illustrates the electronic state of the parent material CaFeAsF, which is an important basic understanding of the origin of iron-based superconductors. Confirming the presence of Dirac electrons will help develop electronic devices that combine superconductivity with Dirac's new capabilities. (Reporter Chen Chao)
