Long-Life Bearing Device and Adjustment
To ensure the long service life of bearings, it's essential to pay close attention to proper installation and adjustment. Here are some key methods that can significantly improve bearing performance and reduce failure risks:
(1) Bearings should be grouped based on the degree of interference fit. Within each group, bearings are arranged in order of their clearance sizes. Similarly, the corresponding shaft or housing hole diameters should also be grouped accordingly. When there is a large interference fit, the bearing set should be matched with a larger diameter shaft or housing group. Conversely, smaller clearances should be paired with smaller diameter components. In general fit groups, bearings with larger clearances should be tightly fitted, while those with smaller clearances should have a looser fit. This approach ensures that bearings used in the same batch of equipment have more consistent fits, avoiding excessive looseness or tightness, leading to more uniform clearance and appropriate pre-load. This helps prevent abnormal failures such as movement, raceway cracking, impact, oscillation, overheating, or seizing due to improper play.
(2) It's crucial to maintain the coaxiality of the journal and the housing bore supporting both ends, as well as the straightness of the end faces. This helps avoid additional loads that could damage the bearing. If possible, the load on the bearing should be positioned away from the bearing’s end to minimize stress on the mechanical components. The shaft and rotating parts system should operate as smoothly as possible to further enhance bearing longevity.

Brass fasteners are used for their physical and aesthetic properties. Brass is utilized due to its high thermal conductivity and corrosion resistant properties, it is suitable for use in hot and cold environments, and resistant to water corrosion, making it a staple of industries such as heating and plumbing. Brass fasteners are largely non-magnetic (like any fastener, slight magnetic properties can develop during the manufacturing process) and resistant to tarnishing.
Brass fasteners are suited for some marine environments, including brackish water and slow current sea water; brass in this environment develops a protective green coating. Brass fasteners are also commonly used with wood applications, as the golden coloring blends well with the tan wood. Brass is a softer metal and must be used with care, always drilling pilot holes and using driver bits that fit the head of the screw precisely to prevent stripping. Brass Bolts also require a pilot hole be driven before installtion.
