Oscillating analysis method for the diagnosis of rolling bearing problems

This method involves monitoring and analyzing the vibration or oscillation patterns of a bearing during operation. By detecting abnormal oscillations, engineers can identify early signs of wear, misalignment, or defects in the bearing. In one case, a water pump motor at our facility was replaced with a new bearing during maintenance. However, after starting the motor, it began to heat up (reaching around 78°C). At first, we suspected that the bearing quality might be substandard. A preliminary inspection was conducted, and the oscillation spectrum was analyzed. The oscillation speed was found to be unusually high. Despite this, there was no visible sign of overheating, which made the situation a bit confusing. Another example involved the 3 # boiler ball mill motor. During a repair, the bearing was replaced, but after reinstallation, the motor experienced excessive oscillation and unusual noises. Through testing and analysis, it was determined that the bearing fault frequency and the resulting noise harmonics were significantly above normal levels. This indicated poor bearing quality. After replacing it with a certified and qualified bearing, the equipment returned to normal operation. During the deterioration phase, if the oscillation speed exceeds 3 mm/s, and the spectrum analysis confirms the presence of rolling bearing fault characteristics, it's essential to increase the monitoring frequency. Early detection can prevent further damage and avoid potential equipment failure. When the oscillation speed goes beyond 7 mm/s (especially in rotating equipment rated between 15–300 kW), it’s time to consider replacing the bearing. Delaying this could lead to more serious mechanical problems. To accurately diagnose the damaged parts of a bearing, advanced profiling software such as Zhentong 904 can be used. These tools help generate detailed diagnostic reports, providing clear insights into the condition of the bearing and guiding necessary maintenance actions. --- **Related Bearing Knowledge** - Characteristics of five major types of bearings in plastic machinery - Precautions when using variable-speed FAG bearings - How to improve the accuracy of centerless grinding machines - Anatomy of the sliding bearing of the initiator (Part 2) - Bearings in application processes --- This article is sourced from China Bearing Network.
