MIT Develops Lithium Oxide Battery with Stronger and Safer Life

MIT announced on the 27th that it has made a major breakthrough in battery technology, and the battery can perform better in endurance. Lithium-oxygen batteries overcome some of the major drawbacks of previous lithium-air batteries that MIT and other research institutions are keen on, because the latter's heating can cause drastic performance degradation. The mismatch of the voltage in the lithium-air battery's charge and discharge cycle on the market will result in a 30% energy heat loss, while the new lithium-ion battery has the same electrochemical reaction but oxygen will not be reduced to gas but will form three solid state Oxides: Li2O, Li2O2 and LiO2.

This kind of process means that the charging speed is quickened, and at the same time, the heat dissipation will not cause safety problems and the efficiency will be higher.

At the same time, the new battery also has overcharge protection. It will not cause structural damage or explosion when overcharged like an ordinary battery. The test results show that the new battery has not been damaged for 15 days after being overcharged.

R600A is refrigerant grade Isobutane, a natural, or "not in kind", refrigerant suitable for use in a range of refrigeration applications. The use of R600a is increasing due to its low environmental impact and excellent thermodynamic performance and it is now the refrigerant gas of choice in domestic and small commercial refrigerators. It is non-toxic with zero ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential) and very low GWP (Global Warming Potential).
